FAQ
About the Glass Blowing Experience
Q.How long does the glassblowing experience take?
→A. The time required for the entire experience varies from person to person, but for example, if there are two people, it should take about 30 to 40 minutes including the explanation and the time to choose a design. (For each additional person after 2, about 5 minutes will be added to the total time.)
After the reception, general explanation, and design selection, you will enter the workshop, where you will blow and widen the mouth area in turn. (The actual working time is about 5 to 7 minutes per person.)
Please note that the time may vary slightly depending on how crowded the room is. Please understand. For groups of 20 or more, we offer a group course that can shorten the time required. Please inquire separately.
Q.Are children under 6 years old allowed to participate?
→A. No. The minimum age for the workshop is 6 years old. Children between the ages of 5 and 4 can participate in the workshop if they sit next to an adult and only spin the glass. Please consult with the reception staff on the day of the tour. (For children under 3 years old, please observe the experience only.)
The glass blowing experience involves handling molten glass at 1,300℃. In order to prevent accidents, children who may be startled by the heat of the approaching glass or who may suddenly stand up or run may not be allowed to participate, regardless of their age, at the discretion of the glassblowers. Please understand this beforehand.
Q.I am going with my family, but only my child (elementary school age or older) would like to participate. Is it okay if only the children participate?
→A. Yes, children are welcome to participate. During the experience, the child will basically work alone with the support of the craftsman.
If you have a companion, please enter the workshop with your child and observe from a safe distance of about 1.5 meters away, take pictures, and enjoy the experience.
(When making the glass, only the person making the glass is allowed to get close to the glass, as it is very dangerous to handle molten glass at 1,300°C.)
For detailed information on the flow of the experience, please refer to the “Workshop Flow” page.
Q.Is there any clothing or personal belongings I need to bring?
→A. No. Clothing and personal belongings are optional. For safety reasons, you will be required to wear arm covers and military gloves during the experience, which we will provide. However, it is very hot in the studio during the summer, so please drink water and take it easy if you are not feeling well.
Q.Is it possible for two people to make a total of three glasses?
→A. Yes, it is possible. In that case, please make a reservation for “3”. Please inform the staff at the reception desk on the day of the event that you would like to make three glasses for two people, just to be sure.
Q.Do you have a parking lot?
→A. Yes, there is a free parking lot at “Gala Aoiumi” where our studio is located. However, parking will be restricted when events such as the Yachimun Market are being held at Gala Aoiumi. In such cases, we will send a separate important email regarding the available parking area and entrance for visitors only.
